Sixth and Seventh Root Races: Humanity’s Future Evolution
Introduction
The Sixth and 7th Root Races represent the future stages of human evolution in Theosophical teaching, moving beyond our current focus on intellect toward higher states of consciousness. While humanity today is part of the Fifth Root Race, these later stages point toward a gradual transformation in awareness, perception, and our relationship with the world around us.
In the teachings of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, human evolution is not simply physical, but deeply connected to the unfolding of consciousness. The Sixth Root Race is expected to bring a shift toward intuition, unity, and cooperation, while the Seventh Root Race represents the culmination of this cycle, where humanity becomes increasingly aligned with spiritual awareness.
Together, these final stages complete a vast evolutionary journey — one that moves from spirit into matter, and ultimately back toward a more conscious and unified spiritual state.
The Sixth Root Race
The Sixth Root Race represents the next major stage in human evolution, emerging gradually from the present Fifth Root Race.
Blavatsky suggests it will arise from existing humanity, particularly in regions where cultures are blending and new ways of thinking are forming.
Key characteristics include:
• Greater development of intuition over intellect
• A stronger sense of unity and cooperation among humanity
• Reduced emphasis on materialism
• More refined emotional and mental balance
• Early stages already forming within modern global society
This stage marks the transition from intellectual development to intuitive awareness.
The Seventh Root Race
The Seventh Root Race is described as the final stage of human evolution in this planetary cycle (Fourth Round).
It represents a return to a more spiritual state, but now enriched by all the experience gained through previous races.
Key characteristics include:
• Highly spiritualized consciousness
• Dominance of intuition and inner perception
• Strong awareness of unity with all life
• Minimal attachment to material existence
• Preparation for a major evolutionary transition beyond current humanity
This stage completes the evolutionary arc from spirit → matter → spirit.
“Evolution is not an ending, but a remembering of what was always present.”
