The General State of Monads

This article entitled ‘The General State of Monads’ was part of the Esoteric philosophy Course from the 1980s by the Lifewave Light and Sound Meditation Organisation. The original document can be viewed in the PDF file at the end of the article.

INTRODUCTION

The monad is associated with duality, this being defined as any step away from the infinite cause. Monads are like perceptions and can occur at any level of the act of perceiving. Since they are the cause for particular states, they can only be likened to particular things. However, the realm of causes is vast. If we investigate the causes in a glass bottle, we would generally define its cause as having association shape with all bottle qualities.

But we must realise that the bottle monad existing on a finer plane is capable of further subdivision since it exists on a more fluid level. Thus the bottle monad also has elements within of a far more universal state – ie. glass, shape, colour etc, which reside in other objects also. Thus we would see a genera of specialisation.

APPERCEPTION – PERCEPTION – APPETITION

Perception only occurs in duality – it has its root in apperception. There are many perceptions a person could have, but you only apperceive one thing at a time.

Appetition is due to the ‘pressure’ that indwells any created object. It is a ‘pressure’ that is rooted in spirit. Since form limits spirit then different orders of form would be seen to have different orders of perception – the intensity of perception being appetition or ‘hunger’ for perception. Thus a rock necessarily has perception because of its indwelling spirit. Obviously its state of change is slow because of its great resistance. The brain of Man on the other hand, is quite liquid and offers little resistance to the indwelling spirit – hence a greater degree of perfection can be mirrored in Man than in a rock! Thus also, because spirit ‘flows freer in Man’s brain then appetition is more intense.

Not only does appetition occur on a physical plane in this way, but its real implication is on the monadic planes, where interchange is very rapid. Remember it is only due to the internal principle in anything rooted in the perfection of God that perception and appetition is possible.

MATRIX OF FORM – POSSIBILITY

Change occurs because of the pressure upon creation from finer causes. The potential in the finer causes is therefore very great and would be seen ultimately to contain an infinity of possible states. Remember it is almost impossible to conceive of the number of different angles that an apple could be seen from – before we enter into anything finer! As creation becomes denser, it is said to become more diverse – hence the notion of distance and memory arises. This is why Leibnitz states that a monad is ‘simple’ and to have ‘no extension’.

The limits within creation are very great. Therefore we would understand a matrix to exist which has been established over aeons of time. Thus it is that finer causes can only establish coarser effects  if the matrix is able to ‘receive’ such an input of energy. It would be seen that this is the basis also for change since there is intense competition for manifestation. Thus only the most suitable possible monad is able to bring about effects in any given situation. Creation is thus seen as an experiment in which all possibilities are tried over periods of time – hence the notion of a ‘game God plays with himself’.

A confusion does exist in Leibnitz as to whether a monad is to be called such only when it has an effect within creation. However, the dinosaur monad does still exist – since it still has a form within our minds – it is a perception of ours and thus has a reality.

A monad is termed an entelechy (or indwelling state) when united with its effect. Thus the monad of a living person is the soul and is the entelechy of that person. The riddle is – even when a person is dead, surely the monad is still creating an effect in order that we know about it. This is why monads are so hard to conceive of, because we only know the cause by the effect – until we arrive back at infinity.
