Art as an Echo of the Divine

“Art is said to be halfway between knowing and not knowing oneself.”

This poetic reflection captures a transition state—a creative space between the painting and mystery of the divine, form and formlessness.

To stand in that space is to brush against the Infinite without yet dissolving into it.

On the Path of Light and Sound, this “halfway” moment corresponds to an early but essential stage of Awakening. As described in many Initiate and Awakening testimonials, one can encounter a period of visionary Light, beauty, and symbolism, before leaving these forms behind and surrendering to the space of Eternal Being.

Art arises in the space where the soul grows close to its Source but retains its sense of self.

Art as Echo of the Divine Light and Sound Meditation begins when the personal voice (identity) quiets and the Source becomes the only music. This music can be heard as an Inner Sound which enables the Soul to travel back to its source or Atman. The painting to the right illustrates a Harp Angel by the Artist Josephine Wall.

This lends itself well as a visual illustration of the Divine Sound heard upton Initiation, Biblically known as The ‘Word’ of God

The artist may not even be aware of  how they tap into their creativity whilst painting, but just let the art flow out of the creative space they reside in as the brush goes to work.

The Initiate perceiving the fine geometries of the ‘Thousand-Petalled Lotus,’ is experiencing the Divine as if through art—beautiful, profound, but still perceived through the lens of selfhood. The ‘Artwork’ of the Inner planes is perceived through the Spiritual Light and is of a much higher vibration than the paint occupying the canvas. The Inner Light occupies the canvas of the Inner Planes of Consciousness.

In contrast to Art, the Path of Light and Sound is not expression, but dissolution.

The meditator does not shape the experience—they are shaped by it. It is a journey beyond the artistic into the Inner Mysteries.

Thus, art is like the dream before awakening. It reflects the Light but cannot become it. Becoming is achieved through Meditation on the Light and Sound.
