Esoteric Astrology 

 

Each Zodiac sign is a journey and we work our way through from its lowest manifestation (energy) to the highest.

The Esoteric Rulerships come into play when we act from a point of ‘the good of all’ rather than just the benefit of the self.

 

Aries

• Springtime, ruled at the personality level by Mars.
• Esoterically by Mercury
• The most masculine energy of the zodiac, the primal male energy that is ready to fight.
• Esoterically, Mercury is all about planting the new seeds of thought in humanity
• Aries=“ I come forth and from the plane of mind I rule.
• Brings in the energy of the 1^st ray and the 7^th
• It has a lot of leadership power.
• Lower qualities: impulsive, impatient, wants to be first in line, wants to fight with everything in its path.
• Highest Level: it becomes a conduit for leadership and you become a pioneer and conduit to whatever is your greatest gift. You get to plant the seeds of thought.

Taurus

• An Earth sign
• Exoterically Taurus is ruled by Venus, Esoterically it is ruled by Vulcan
• The Venus energy allows the Taurean to see what is of value
• Vulcan gets the form into shape so it can carry the Light.
• Brings in the energy of the 4^th Ray (harmony, Beauty, Art)
• Venus bestows great beauty on this sign and gives the personality a magnetism. Taurus is a feminine sign where as Aries is masculine, so it tends to draw towards itself like a magnet.
• A sign of manifestation or making things happen.
• Taurus is a sign of great light and beauty
• At the highest level Taurus is all about illumination and the path of light.
• Lower level: the stubborn will. It is a fixed sign so it will not be moved. It has its own rhythms and tempo. Just as Aries rushes, so Taurus plods.

• Until be get the onward rush of the Bull of God. When a Taurus gets going and is aligned with their will, then they can charge towards their goal.
• In early life there can be a struggle to get the ‘form’ moving and not be so fixed. So it is struggling against its inherent lqualitiy of being a fixed sign
• Esoterically the phrase representing Taurus is ‘I SEE’ which is to do with its quality of illumination. When the (third eye) is opened all is illuminated.
• The third eye sees and penetrates the LIGHT beyond the form

 

Gemini

• A dual sign. Exoterically ruled by Mercury and Esoterically by Venus.
• Gemini has a lot to do with how we speak, think, communicate and the interplay or bridge building between people. Being Mercurial it has a movement to it (it is a mutable sign). A mutable sign occurs at the end of a season, when one season is turning into another.
• Geminis have a quickness and a lightness with a childlike curiosity.
• Esoterically Venus rules Gemini as it wants to make the two become one, bring union out of duality.
• It also wants to raise Gemini from being interested in pure facts, but to also gain wisdom and understanding. Venus wants to marry the head and the heart of Gemini and have the wisdom that comes from that.
• So this Love-Wisdom energy represents the quality of the 2^nd Ray which rules Gemini.

 

 

• Gemini is represented on earth in the Gemini Festival for example as run by the Lucis Trust:

“Often referred to as the Festival of Humanity or the Festival of the Christ, this culminating Festival honours the Christ and celebrates humanity’s potential for duality to be resolved, and for goodwill to flourish. On this day, the Christ represents the whole of humanity in a supreme act of invocation. He calls for the human spirit to be unified: soul and personality, lower and higher self, fused into “one new man” as the Bible puts it.”

• Gemini is involved with the strengthening of the soul in the fusing of the parts of the personality, in the conversion of knowledge into wisdom.

 

 

 

Cancer

• The first water sign, profoundly sensitive. Exoterically ruled by the Moon and on the esoteric level is ruled by Neptune.
• It is connected to the breasts and the belly. At a certain point in its evolution, there is a great sense of protection in Cancer.
• Protecting the self from the harsh realities of Life.
• Having the shell, the spiritual journey for Cancer is to shed the armour and stand vulnerable.
• Like the changes in the tides of the ocean Cancereans are known to have changeable emotions, and there is a strong reactivity early in life.
• A deep sense of fear must be overcome in Cancer, but in its more evolved state Cancer has the ‘Divine Mother’ energy which not only wants to protect itself but also reach out and protect the whole of humanity.
• Neptune is a planet of compassion and is sensitive to the world needs and the hungers of the world and it wants to provide.

Cancer: “I build a Lighted house and therein dwell” (Lucis Trust)

• Our Lighted House can be our family, our business, our relationships etc.
• They are filling with LIGHT, the darkness which is form.

Early Cancer: ‘isolation rules and yet the crowd exists’ and so as the Cancerean evolves so it must turn towards the Light and move out of its sense of isolation and self-protection. Turning toward the light of Leo which is the next sign.

 

 

 

 

 

• Associated with the 3^rd Ray and 7^th Ray

 

Leo

• The second fire sign and governed by the 5^th Ray: Concrete Knowledge and science.
• The fifth ray helps Leo ask the question “ Who am I” and answer it with more and more specificity.
• The fifth Ray asks “Who is the I that is speaking”
• Leo starts out as the personality ‘I’ which is very strong
• Goes with the phrase: “ Let other forms exist, I rule”
• On the lower level he is represented by the self absorbed King.
• As he evolves he becomes the beneficent King or Queen.
• Leo rules the Heart so we may imagine a sun at the heart centre that must shine forth, and as it does so it holds all in hits vicinity in the Light that shines from it.
• Both esoterically and exoterically the Sun rules Leo
• However, at the Soul level the sun is VEILLING
• The sensitivity of Neptune comes through Leo at this level. Leo is very creative and becomes more sensitive in its higher expressions. It is always asking who is the I, but eventually the I becomes the WE (as it does in Aquarius) as boundaries are broken down. Neptune is all about dissolving boundaries.
• The ‘I’ that is associated with Leo gets bigger and bigger until it joins with the WE and all become one.
• Leos phrase: I am That, and That am I.
• The journey for Leo is giving the gift of the heart and the gift of the self, however it is also important to ask to what end
• Is about Pride (associated with the Lion) or selflessness and a generosity.

Virgo

• Second earth sign and a powerful sign of discrimination and analysis
• Matric ulus attention to detail.
• At the personality level it is ruled by Mercury
• Esoterically ruled by the Moon but veiling a planet (either Neptune, Uranus, or Vulcan at any given level on your spiritual journey)
• Virgo is a divine feminine energy connected to the mother, but in a very practical way
• In Virgo we say “How Can we purify our physical, emotional and mental health”?
• In its highest expression this purification allows the unconditional love of the Christ to pour through.
• Virgo difficulties are getting lost in minutia, the fine details and the material world and fixing it, because the world is constantly changing and needs to be adjusted.
• Highest level= building the womb, the temple so that Christ flows through. Love can be gestated and born. Christ was the embodiment of love
• A powerful sign of practicality, work and devotion. Its highest service is to be a channel for unconditional love.
• Phrase for Virgo: “I am the Mother and the Child” describing the dance between matter and spirit out of which is birthed the soul and from the soul, the Christ Energy.
• Virgo transmits the second and sixth rays:

 

 

 

Libra

• The second air sign and is dual in nature. Ruled by Venus at the personality level and by Uranus at the esoteric level. However Taurus is also ruled by Venus so what is the difference between these two?
• Libra has much to do with social grace, environment and creating a rapport with others.
• Libra has a great desire to focus on what is fair and just, noble and true.
• It seeks balance and the middle path.
• Libra can often procrastinate in weighing up situations and so a phrase for Libra is “I Choose the way that leads between the two lines of force”
• We can imagine a person walking a tightrope on their razor edge path of life.
• Libra is the point on our evolutionary path which represents if we are going to go forward with our spiritual life or just stay as we are.
• In its highest octave Libra is about mind to mind or soul to soul relationships.. ones that are meaningful.
• Also interested in democracy and equality.
• Uranus rules Libras highest octave and it wakes us up to find those that we are to connect to on a soul level.
• Libras are not all peaceful and in balance but there are in pursuit of that.
• Libra brings through the Third Ray of Creative Intelligence.
• However, Libra is also a cardinal sign so although it is often busy weighing up situations, it does have the drive to push forward and initiate right relationships.

 

 

 

 

 

Scorpio

• Scorpio is the second water sign and is a sign that has a lot to do with the present state of humanity.
• Scorpio is a sign that rules transformation.
• It rules death and rebirth, sexuality and healing.
• A plunge into the darkness and an immersion into the light.
• Phrase: “ Warrior am I and from the battle I emerge triumphant”
• In Aries, ruled by Mars the battle is seen externally, whereas in Scorpio we are dealing with an internal battle.
• The battle in Scorpio is overcoming the lower nature and particularly the emotional plane.
• Mars and Pluto rule Scorpio at the level of the personality, and esoterically also Mars and Pluto. Both of these are NON sacred planets and so this tells us something about the nature of the struggle of Scorpio… we have to dive in and face fears within ourselves.
• The 4^th Ray comes through Scorpio where we have the Agony and ecstasy
• Ultimately they need to see that fear is only an illusion.
• In Scorpio we overcome these fears and become warrior for the light.

Sagittarius

• Sagittarius is the third and final fire sign.
• Ruled by Jupiter exoterically. At the soul centred level it is ruled by the Earth.
• I see the goal, I reach the goal and then I find another.
• It has tremendous drive and vision.
• It rules the legs so there is often a physicality associated with this sign although there is another dimension to Sagittarius which is very philosophical.
• It has a lot to do with the spiritual path, walking it and becoming the one pointed disciple (arrow).
• Early in life it shoots its arrows in all different directions and gains lots of experience from it.
• In its highest aspect it focuses on the spiritual, aiming its arrow at the bulls eye.
• Sagittarians are therefore the great adventurers, whether they are travelling the world, or embarking on their inner journey.
• Jupiter rules Sag on the personality level as this sign has such a desire to grow and expand and experience the diversity of humanity.
• Earth rules the soul level and this gives direction for those under this sign to focus on the healing and wellbeing of the earth and its creatures.
• Rays 4, 5 and 6 pour through Sagittarius.
• 4^th Ray = adventure
• 5^th Ray = Pursuit of truth and clarity.
• 6^th Ray = Devotion and Idealism (the arrow wants to pursue the vision with devotion, idealism and one pointedness.)

Capricorn

 

• The last Earth Sign and perhaps the most mysterious glyph.
• It is the sign that rules Initiation.
• Ruled by Saturn both at the exoteric and esoteric level.
• There is therefore tremendous responsibility, structure and purpose associated with Capricorn.
• There is a seriousness of purpose in Capricorn
• In the lowest expression Capricorn has strong desires and ambitions for material things, being one pointed like a diamond cutting through matter, which is eventually discovered as death!
• Capricorn does rule death and is one of the great gateways. Cancer rules birth. Both are opposite in the zodiac.
• The top of the diamond is the spiritual ascent and you have to pass the tests of Saturn and deal with your karma to climb the mountain of initiation.
• If you want to get something done, use the energy of Capricorn as it is full of energy and determination.
• It has a quality of control to it as well but later on this can be transformed into purpose and intention.
• 3 Rays pour through Capricorn
• 1^st Ray = leadership
• 3^th Ray = business sense, creative intelligence.
• 7^th Ray = brings in the order and regimentation of the spiritual climb
• Aries, Leo and Capricorn bring in the first ray and all these lead in a different way.
• Capricorn, the mountain goat, climbs the spiritual mountain and is often alone.
• At the top of the Mountain the Goat says: “Lost am I in Light Supernal, yet on that Light I turned my back”
• The Capricorn Adept at the top of the mountain, spiritually awakened, turns back to disseminate that knowledge in AQUARIUS:

 

Aquarius

• The last air sign.
• Ruled exoterically by Uranus and Saturn and esoterically by Jupiter.
• We are entering the age of Aquarius and so this is an incredibly important sign.
• A sign of group endeavour and creativity.
• Only by coming together can we take steps forward.
• Works well with Leo, as they step forward to lead the group.
• Phrase for Aquarius is “Water of life am I, poured forth for thirsty men”.
• Water of life = wisdom or whatever gift you have for the benefit of humanity.
• Aquarius, often early in life feels like the lone wolf, where are my people, where is my group ?
• We need to evolve to call our truest allies to you.
• Ruled exoterically by Uranus, it does not follow the traditional route in life like Capricorn.
• It invents and revolutionises.
• Jupiter’s influence brings togetherness to Aquarius, we are greater than the sum of its parts.
• This is the way we need to move forward as humanity, as one no longer polarised.
• The 5^th Ray of Concrete Knowledge pours through Aquarius which brings in the element of the discriminating mind.
• The Age of Aquarius is when we are likely to prove the existence of spiritual realities, or at least intuit them through science (Quantum Physics).
• The 5^th Ray therefore helps us to bring spirituality and science together.
• Aquarius is a sign of distribution and rules the Internet, electricity and our connections.
• Aquarius wants to unite the earth through the distribution of LIGHT
• This can even be done esoterically by triangles of people meditating simultaneously in different geographical areas:

 

 

Pisces

• The last sign of the zodiac, a water sign and a sign of synthesis.
• It is said that Pisces takes from all of the signs, bringing together the gifts of all the signs.
• Exoterically Jupiter and Neptune rule Pisces, and at the exoteric level Pluto rules Pisces.
• An extraordinarily sensitive sign.
• Vastness, silence and vulnerability.
• Rules the oceans and is the ‘ocean of compassion’
• A sign of your greatest self undoing or your greatest self fulfilling, the victim or the saviour.
• You can plummet into depression or stand raw and available in unconditional love.
• The energy of the Christ
• The 2^nd Ray and 6^th Ray pour through Pisces giving it love wisdom, devotion and idealism, profound sensitivity and unconditional love for humanity.
• Pisces phrase: “ I leave my father’s house, and turning back I save”
• One of the greatest joys of Pisces is to be at one and connected to the source, there is a requirement to travel back to also save humanity.
• Often Pisceans do medical work or charitable work for those less fortunate, working with those most in need or most in pain.
• Pluto rules it esoterically and it is a planet of Death, so in Pisces you hopefully wrap up some of the karma
• Glyph of Pisces is the 2 fishes, one being connected to matter and the other to spirit, and they are bound together.
• There is a certain point in Pisces where they need to be set free
