 Taurus The Ox Astrology In Exodus : Evidence that astrology was important to early civilisation can be found in the Lascaux cave

Near to the entrance of the Lascaux cave complex is a magnificent painting of a bull which has been dated as 18000 years old.. Hanging over its shoulder is what appears (to us) to be a map of the Pleiades, the cluster of stars sometimes called the Seven Sisters. Inside the bull painting, there are also indications of spots that may be a representation of other stars found in that region of sky. Today, this region forms part of the constellation of Taurus the bull.

Before looking at the Astrology of Exodus, the significance of Astrology in the Bible can be demonstrated early in the book of Genesis:

1:14 And God said, Let there be lights (stars) in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

The fact that Astrology existed long before the Bible can be seen by examining the book of Job.This  is a very ancient book of the Old Testament (1400 BC)  and in it we have references to Astrology:

Job 38 : 31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Since the Bible is quoting these astrological names , astrology as a practise was present long before the Bible was ever written.

Pleiades = a star cluster in the constellation Taurus :

Orion =  a hunter in Greek mythology 

Orion is bordered by Taurus to the northwest, Eridanus to the southwest, Lepus to the south, Monoceros to the east, and Gemini to the northeast. Covering 594 square degrees, Orion ranks twenty-sixth of the 88 constellations in size.

Job 38 : 32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

Mazzaroth = the constellations of the zodiac:

Arcturus =  is a red giant star in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth’s sky that is the brightest star in the constellation Boötes (the Herdsman). Arcturus is also among the brightest stars that can be seen from Earth. 

Arcturus gives the connected an innate desire to study metaphysics. It passes along other desires, such as strong desires towards freedom. These people, who are greatly effected by Arcturus, may find that popularity comes easy, as this star has energetic connections to the sign of Libra.

(ii) Astrology in Exodus : The Influence of Taurus

Exodus 21 : 28 If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.

ox  = Bull of Taurus

Going back to the original verse :

Exodus 21 : 28 If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.

Ox = Bull = Taurus = Earthiness = matter = flesh = lower self (mind, emotions, physical desires).

So the power of the lower self gores a man or a woman. When we are consumed by our lower self it is like spirit being gored by a bull

Stoning of the Ox = the Pineal Stone. By meditation and activating the Pineal Gland the Ox or temptations of the flesh are overcome.

This is the stone that the builders rejected in Psalms 118:22

The Ox, representing the ego must be consumed by the power of the Pineal Gland. This is the same as meditation through the third eye.

When the Pineal Gland is unused it has a sandy consistency, but through meditation it becomes stone like. This is what is meant by building your house on stone and not sand as when the storm of life comes, the life built on sand (the ego)is swept away.

and his flesh shall not be eaten = the lower energies of the Bull should not be taken inwardly. This is one of the reasons being vegetarian is a pre requisite on a spiritual path because meat contains the energy of the animal. The Ox is wild and represents the uncontrolled nature of the EGO.

The eating of flesh can also be found in the verse below: 

Back to the verse :

Exodus 21 : 29 But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past =  If we have been mauled by the Ox (our lower nature) in the past , or nearly so and we did nothing to rectify our lifestyle then it will come back to haunt us. If we know we should be living a different way, a more spiritual life and yet we continue to ignore the warning signs then our life will surely derail.

hath not kept him in = not kept our lower nature (Ox) in check

(iii) Astrology in Exodus : Conclusion

We can see from the above that astrology played an important part in the mind set of those that wrote the Bible. These were people from the east that used allegory to convey important spiritual truths which are common to all mankind. At a future date we will look at the Labors of Hercules and his 12 tasks ( symbolic for the twelve trials of the astrological zodiac, or Mazzaroth )
