Biblical Astrology of Scorpio Introduction

In this article we look at interpreting the Biblical Astrology of Scorpio as part of a complete series looking into the twelve zodiac signs and how they are represented in Biblical text. In tarot we have the death card which is represents the three levels of  Scorpio; the scorpion, the serpent and the eagle :

The scorpion and the serpent are represented in this article as they are the lowest aspects of this sign which is what the biblical writings refer to in the story of Judas betraying Jesus.

Anteres = a bright star in the centre of Scorpio. Represents the heart of the Scorpion and where the wounding takes place. One of the characteristics of Scorpios is that they are easily wounded. It is a bright red star that glows. There are 3 decans in each zodiac sign each of 10 degrees and we discuss these below :

(ii) Three Decans of Scorpio

The three decans of Scorpio are :

Decan 1: Serpens = the serpent.

Decan 2: Ophiuchus = the serpent wrestling with the man.

Decan 3: Hercules = the Hero

They can all be seen in the image below :

Decans 1 and 2:  Serpens and Ophiuchus Interpretation

Job 26

13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.

God has garnished the heavens with the stars and there is reference here to the serpent of Scorpio.

14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

how little a portion is heard of him = how many people understand Biblical Astrology

The serpent represents that part of us that pulls us down, our lower nature which symbolically wraps itself around us and pulls us to the ground so we do not descend into spirit.

Luke 10:

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

we have the power in our meditation and spiritual practise to overcome our lower nature.

This is also seen in the Bhagavad Gita with Krishnas foot on the head of the serpent :

This is referenced in Genesis where God punishes but the serpent and Eve. Speaking to the serpent :

Genesis 3 : 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Genesis 3 : 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

we can see in the astrology images above that both Biblical Astrology and Krishna stories are one and the same.

This theme about the serpent can be misinterpreted if taken literally. For instance if we look at the following verse :

Mark 16

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

This means that the Christ Consciousness in meditation will devour the lower mind which drags us down and chokes the life out of us like a serpent.

However some churches take things literally :

Why does the Scorpion try to sting the heel of man as shown in the first image ?

The heel is the lowest part of man and represents the lowest nature of man. The struggle with the serpent is to stop the serpent from his goal of strangling the higher nature of man. In the death card above the scorpion and serpent are in the lowest aspect of the card, only the Eagle (higher aspect of Scorpio) is elevated.

In the constellation, the serpent is reaching for the crown, he is reaching up to take over your crown, our spirituality. I have cropped the original image so we can see that happening below with the serpent reaching for the Corona Borealis :

Looking at the above diagram :

Unuk = the brightest star in the serpent. It means ENCOMPASSING, that is  your troubles come at you from all directions, we don’t know which way to turn. Fears, anxieties, negative thoughts encompass us.

Decan 3.  Hercules The Third Decan of Libra

The third decan of Scorpio is Hercules and in the sky is seen upside down but I have inverted the image as it is easier to study upright.

Biblical Astrology of Scorpio

In his Right hand is the club that signifies the power that comes from our right side or spiritual side and is the power of our spiritual practise.

Looking at the human skull the indent in the side of the head is the Temple where Jesus drove the money changers from.

CERBEBUS = In Hercules left hand and is a three-headed monster. The three heads stand for power , lust and desire and Hercules is about to kill these three qualities within us.

Review:

Conflict between the scorpion stinging the heel of the man who is struggling with the serpent.

He kills the 3 headed monster with the club in the right and so he can eat of the fruit of the left side. But the fruit is evil as it is from the left side. The nice looking fruit has been responsible for our downfall as it is the produce from the left side, or the material plane. It entices us in and yet we then lose our connection with the power of spirit.

Lion skin around Hercules body = He is wearing the skin because the spirit of the Lion is dead and he has conquered his animal nature.

1st Peter 5:

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

So in Scorpio we have the conflict of the serpent and the scorpion. Hercules destroys the serpent that poisons the fruit

Ras Al Gethi = star in the head of Hercules and means the ‘head of him who bruises’

Kornephoros = star in the right shoulder of the Hercules constellation. This is translated as ‘the branch’.

Jesus said he is the vine and we are the branch. In every constellation there is a star called the branch and this emphasises that the Kingdom of God is within us.

John 15 : 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

We must take on the role of Hercules and use the power of spirit in meditation (club) to overcome the desires and distractions of the lower nature (3 headed monster, fruit).
