Biblical Astrology Introduction

Biblical Astrology Introduction : This introduces a detailed the topic of the relationship between Astrology and the Zodiac and forwards some general principles connecting them. The articles that follow this will look in detail at each of the 12 star signs of the zodiac and how they relate to the bible and the spiritual path.

Familiar terms such as the days  of the week are named after the 7 planets :

Saturn-day,

Sun-day,

Moon-day,

and in Latin, ‘Martis’ (Mars, Tuesday),

‘Mercurii’ (Mercury, Wednesday),

‘Iovis’ (Jupiter, Thursday) and

‘Veneris’ (Venus, Friday).

The Moon controls the tides & the average adult human body is averaging around 57-60% water. The percentage of water in infants is much higher, typically around 75-78% water so it is inconceivable that the moon does not affect the human body.

Some of the Gospels were originally represented as astrological characters in older versions of the bible and are still represented in modern day churches as can be seen in the pictures below:

This window depicting the common symbols of the four Gospel writers is in the choir loft of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lamberton, Minnesota, USA.

  1. Matthew = Man Age of Aquarius = wisdom of God overwhelms the intellect of man.
  2. Mark = Lion = Leo = spirit of god overwhelms the human spirit
  3. Luke = bull =Taurus = power of God overwhelms the power or animal nature man.
  4. John = Eagle = Scorpio, in its lower nature a scorpion, but its higher nature an Eagle = higher consciousness ruling over the carnal nature of man.

12 disciples are represented in various biblical stories: 12 apostles, 12 gates to the city, 12 tribes of Israel, sons of Jacob etc.

Biblical Astrology Examples in Scripture

We will now study the Bible & see how it tells us the following:

  1. The stars are for Signs
  2. The stars have names
  3. The stars have influence on Man

  1. Biblical Astrology: Stars are for Signs

The following verses support that the bible indicates that stars were there to be for signs about our lives and world direction:

Genesis 1: 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Stars are for signs = strongly implies influence of planets on man.

Luke 22 : 10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

Luke 22 : 12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

Pitcher of water = Aquarian age (age of consciousness)

Biblical Astrology Introduction

House = our body

Upper Room = higher consciousness where we have the Passover.

Jesus says: in

Luke 17 : 20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21 .Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

The above confirm that the Kingdom of Heaven is within and will never be observed i.e. by physical eyes but rather the single ‘spiritual eye’ through meditation.

Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness

Single eye = third eye that is able to perceive the light of God in meditation.

Evil eye = unable to turn away from matter and so we are in darkness

In Job 26: 13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.

‘crooked serpent’ mentioned there is Hydra, a constellation which takes seven hours to pass overhead because of its length (it is the longest constellation in the sky).

Hydra – the many-headed dragon, whose tail also covers a third of the ecliptic path of the sun.

The Hebrew term used for “crooked” actually refers to a “fleeing” serpent. Among the various serpent figures in the Zodiac, Hydra is the only one seen trying to get away from the lion, who pounces on his head; the bird, who eats his flesh; and the bowl of wrath being poured out upon him. Therefore, Hydra appears to be the “fleeing serpent” referred to in this most ancient of Old Testament books and this is represented in the picture below:

2.   Biblical Astrology : Stars are to have Names

The following verses support the fact that God named the stars:

Psalms 147 : 4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

This verse indicates the importance of the stars having names.

In the Bible three wise men came from the east for Jesus. The ‘wise men’ in those days were astrologers that looked to the stars and they were from Persia in the east or modern day IRAN. They were called MAGIthe root of which the word MAGIC is formed.

These Magi ‘followed the star’ as is reported in the Bible and we shall look at what that means. They were from Persia and were commissioned by Zoroaster who said to them study the stars and in them you will find Virgo that proclaims the time of the birth of the king. At that time in Virgo was the constellation COMA. Coma as we will see in our study of Virgo in the next article is called ‘VIRGIN WITH CHILD’.

The children named in Genesis were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, daughter Dinah, Joseph, and Benjamin

Jacob names his sons & daughter after the 12 signs of the zodiac:

Levi and Reuben are twins = Gemini

Dinah (Naphtall)= Virgo the virgin

The Biblical Zodiac doesn’t start with Aries. While the spring equinox, with its rebirth symbolism seems a logical place to start if we are to see the whole story of Jesus, then we must start with the Virgin(Virgo) birth and end with Leo. This is the order that best tells the story, and parallels the Bible.

3.  Biblical Astrology : Stars have Influence

The verses below indicate the influence of the celestial bodies on man (Astrology):

The specific twelve constellations we recognize today as the zodiac is referred to as the Mazzaroth in Hebrew. Job is the oldest book of the bible and it clearly talks about the stars having influence on man:

Job 38 : 31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Pleiades = a star cluster in constellation of Taurus called ‘seven sisters’. Pleiades exercises a sweet influence and can we bind this ? It is referring to restraining the egoic influence that Taurus brings us. Can be restrain our worldly ambition.

Orion = rules the first decan of Taurus.

These are the same names that use today and this was written over 5000 years ago in the book of Job

In the next verse we see reference to the zodiac:

Job 38: 32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

Mazzaroth = but its context is that of astronomical constellations, and it is often interpreted as a term for the zodiac or the constellations thereof (Wikipedia). In a Cristian dictionary it refers to the 12 signs of the zodiac.

Arcturus = brightest star in constellation of Bootes in Virgo.

This concludes our introduction to the topic and we will now begin looking at Virgo in detail in the next article of this series.
