(i) Abram and Sarai Allegory Introduction

In this Article we will discuss the Abram and Sarai Allegory & also Lot in relation to Biblical symbolism. We will see how these play out to show the triumph of spirit over matter and how this can be achieved through meditation. First let us break some words down to find their intented meaning:

ABRAM consists of :

Ab = ‘father or mind’,

Rham = ‘spirit breath’

The breath has always been associated with ‘spirit’ and is a powerful meditation tool.

So Abram is a part of us we need to develop within to find our divine essence. Our first step from moving to Abraham from Abram is shown illustrated in the verses below:

(ii) Abram and Sarai Scripture Interpretation

Genesis 12: 1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Get out of your country & your fathers house etc = get rid of all our cultural and religious traditions. We must away from everything we identify with. This is Gods FIRST instruction on finding him.

shew = show. God will show us a world we don’t know exists when we lose all of our traditions.

Why is it necessary to rid ourselves of all that we have held dear to us?

Ur of the Chaldees  is a biblical place mentioned in the Book of Genesis that refers to a location that the Abram was from;

Ur of the Chaldees metaphysically =  moon city. Moon metaphysically refers to ‘the emotions’ as it reflects back whatever is shone on it. So whatever we put out it reflects back whether it is the light of Christ or the turbulence of our lower nature.

Moon city = the God that reigned over this was called  SIN.

Sin or Nanna (Sumerian: DŠEŠ.KI, DNANNA) was the God of the Moon in the Mesopotamian mythology of Akkad, Assyria and Babylonia :

 So when we are dwelling in our emotions, we are also dwelling in sin.

So sin = dwelling in the emotions and being ruled by them, nothing more. It has nothing to do with the many labels orthodox Christianity has put on it:

So the first thing Abram is told to do is STOP being ruled by the emotions & this applies to our spiritual path. It does not mean emotions are to be avoided but rather our relationship to them needs to change to one of detachment.

Religion subsequently CHANGED the meaning of Sin and made a guilt trip out of it through fear.

So how do we get away from our own emotions or sin? Jesus says the following in the Gospel of Matthew :

Matthew 6: 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

There is more to our life than eating and clothing ourselves. Our body and mind have a higher purpose i.e. reuniting with God.

27. Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

Jesus is saying, that anything to do with thought and the world will not raise our stature in the eyes of God. In order to commune with God we need to be in silence (an inner silence gained through the stillness of meditation)

Taking thought = being of the world . So in the eyes of God there is no difference in stature between these  :

28. And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:.. why are you taking thought ?

Nature just ‘is’ and is in a state of being. There is no intellect , there is only being. Why do we clothe ourselves in the thoughts of the mind, nature does not and is beautiful just as it is.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

If we put our spiritual path to God first, all will be taken care of in terms of our worldly needs

Back to Genesis 12

12: 4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Abram and Sarai Allegory

Abram departs = takes no thought. When he departs he was 75

75 = 7 + 5 = 12 = number of perfection. 7 is also the number of divine intervention to the 5 senses ! So this age is far from random but is expressing Abrams move away from a worldly life.

Where does Abram move to = EGYPT = LOWER MIND. Here we are introduced to his wife Sarai.

Sarai wife means emotions. When the emotions become detached from thought and become virgin she becomes Sarah. In that virgin consciousness she will give birth to the child. In ancient metaphysics :

Husband = mind

Wife = emotions

Wife subjected to husband = emotions subjected to the mind. St Paul says the letter kills and there have been many vile acts committed by a literal interpretation of the scriptures.

Genesis 12 : 13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

Abram is saying DONT let them know that you are my wife because they will kill me and take you.

Wife Sarai  is being passed off as your sister.

The word Sister = SPIRIT

So here Abram is trying to pass off his emotions (his wife) as his Spirit (sister). This is what religion does by evaluating things EMOTIONALLY and confusing this with what is happening SPIRITUALLY. When we are in spirit NOTHING happens. It is a state of absolute stillness which is everywhere. So we cannot sing our way to God on a tide of emotion:

Abram and Sarai Allegory

Genesis 12 : 17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.

Great plagues because of Sarai  = the emotions have not solved anything. Things are getting worse as we are playing with our own emotions or SIN. People do vile acts in the name of God and are totally misguided :

Abram and Sarai Allegory

Genesis 12 : 19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

20. And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

Pharaoh = (our higher mind) why did you say this , take your wife and get out of here. Take your religion and go. Our higher self will not accept that the emotions are the way to find God and so we can see that singing in church, albeit can bring people together for the greater good and can result in good works, but by itself is not the way to find God within.
